{"id":6939,"date":"2025-04-15T11:09:59","date_gmt":"2025-04-15T11:09:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/firearmman.com\/?p=6939"},"modified":"2025-04-15T11:10:00","modified_gmt":"2025-04-15T11:10:00","slug":"2-hikers-stranded-in-remote-areas-of-arizona-desert-rescued-in-separate-incidents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/firearmman.com\/?p=6939","title":{"rendered":"2 hikers stranded in remote areas of Arizona desert rescued in separate incidents"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-testid=\"prism-article-body\">\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao MvWXB TjIXL aGjvy ebVHC \">Two people have been rescued in separate incidents after being stranded in remote areas of the desert in southern Arizona, authorities said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The first incident took place on Saturday when Tucson Sector Border Patrol Search Trauma and Rescue (BORSTAR) agents, along with help from the Pinal County Sheriff\u2019s Office, responded to a call from a hiker stranded near the Superstition Mountains, east of Phoenix, after they suffered a \u201cpotentially broken ankle and were unable to walk,\u201d according to a statement from U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">\u201cAboard Pinal Air 1, the rescue team quickly located the injured hiker,\u201d authorities said. \u201cDue to challenging, mountainside terrain, to evaluate the hiker, a BORSTAR agent was lowered to the ground using the helicopter\u2019s hoist. The hiker was then rescued via hoist and taken to a safe landing zone for further evaluation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">In a second and separate incident the following day, agents assigned to the Sonoita Border Patrol Station \u201cresponded to a call from the Santa Cruz County Sheriff\u2019s Office for a lost and injured hiker on the Arizona Trail near Pauline Ridge,\u201d according to CBP.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">\u201cA U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Air and Marine Operations helicopter located the hiker, but rugged terrain and dense foliage prevented the helicopter from landing, and the rescue was conducted by agents on the ground,\u201d officials said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">After reaching the hiker\u2019s location, agents discovered that the unnamed man had been lost for two days. They were able to provide immediate medical aid and transported him to the Sonoita-Elgin Fire Department for further evaluation and treatment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC eTIW sUzSN \">\u201cI am incredibly proud of our agents\u2019 swift and professional response to these incidents,\u201d said Tucson Sector Chief Patrol Agent Sean L.
