In an exclusive interview<\/a> with ABC News to mark his 100th day in office, President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he \u201ccould\u201d secure the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia<\/a>, the Maryland man his administration said in court was mistakenly deported to El Salvador.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow the Supreme Court has upheld an order that you must return him to the– facilitate his return to the United States. What are you doing to comply?\u201d ABC News anchor and Senior National Correspondent Terry Moran asked Trump in the Oval Office.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, the lawyer that said it was a mistake was here a long time, was not appointed by us– should not have said that, should not have said that,\u201d Trump argued. The president then said that Abrego Garcia is a member of the criminal MS-13 gang and \u201cis not an innocent, wonderful gentleman from Maryland.\u201d Abrego Garcia’s lawyers have maintained<\/a> he’s not MS-13 and has not been charged with or convicted of a crime.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’m not saying he’s a good guy. It’s about the rule of law. The order from the Supreme Court stands, sir,\u201d Moran told the president.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe came into our country illegally,\u201d Trump maintained.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou could get him back. There’s a phone on this desk,\u201d Moran told Trump, pointing to the phone on the Resolute Desk.<\/p>\n

\u201cI could,\u201d Trump conceded.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou could pick it up, and with all–\u201d Moran began to say.<\/p>\n

\u201cI could,\u201d Trump said again.<\/p>\n

\u201c–the power of the presidency, you could call up the president of El Salvador and say, \u2018Send him back right now,\u2019\u201d Moran explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if he were the gentleman that you say he is, I would do that,\u201d Trump offered, before saying, \u201cI’m not the one making this decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou’re the president,\u201d Moran told him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI– no, no, no, no. If– follow the law. You want me to follow the law. If I were the president that just wanted to do anything, I’d probably keep him right where he is\u2014\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Supreme Court says what the law is,\u201d Moran said.<\/p>\n
