India fired several missiles<\/a> into Pakistan overnight on Tuesday, according to the Pakistani army, which said it has responded from the “air and ground.”<\/p>\n

The attacks, labeled Operation Sindoor, targeted nine sites of “terrorist infrastructure” in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, according to the Indian Defense Ministry.<\/p>\n

The Pakistani army said India attacked Kotli, Muzaffaabad and Bahawalpur. Three people were killed and 12 injured, the Pakistani army said.<\/p>\n

Following the strikes, the Indian army said, “Justice is served.”<\/p>\n

India has blamed Pakistan for a deadly attack in the disputed Kashmir region that occurred in April. The militant attack, known as the Pahalgam incident, left 26 people dead in Indian-held Kashmir.<\/p>\n

Pakistan said in late April it had credible evidence India intended to carry out military action against Pakistan in the coming days, according to Pakistani Information Minister Attaullah Tarar.<\/p>\n

President Donald Trump responded to India’s missile attack at the Oval Office, calling it “a shame.”<\/p>\n

“Just heard about it,” Trump said when asked by a reporter for his reaction to the strikes. “I guess people knew something was going to happen based on a little bit of the past. They’ve been fighting for a long time.”<\/p>\n

Trump added, ‘I just hope it ends very quickly.”<\/p>\n

The State Department said it is “closely monitoring developments.”<\/p>\n

“We are aware of the reports, however we have no assessment to offer at this time,” a State Department official said.<\/p>\n

The Trump administration has been supportive of India\u2019s concerns over terrorism and pushed Pakistan to publicly condemn last month’s attack in Kashmir.<\/p>\n

State Department officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, have been working to contain retaliation from India.<\/p>\n
