{"id":9015,"date":"2025-05-15T03:36:59","date_gmt":"2025-05-15T03:36:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/firearmman.com\/?p=9015"},"modified":"2025-05-15T03:37:01","modified_gmt":"2025-05-15T03:37:01","slug":"ex-fdny-chief-gets-3-years-for-taking-bribes-to-fast-track-safety-inspections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/firearmman.com\/?p=9015","title":{"rendered":"Ex-FDNY chief gets 3 years for taking bribes to fast-track safety inspections"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-testid=\"prism-article-body\">\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao MvWXB TjIXL aGjvy ebVHC \"><span class=\"oyrPY qlwaB AGxeB  \">NEW YORK &#8212; <\/span>A former New York City Fire Department chief was sentenced to three years in prison Wednesday for accepting tens of thousands of dollars in bribes to fast-track fire safety inspections at restaurants, hotels and other city businesses. <\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Anthony Saccavino, 61, <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/corruption-nyc-fire-chief-guilty-5a054b75175f8f5720229f246b7e1fd0\">pleaded guilty<\/a> in January to running the scheme while heading the department\u2019s Bureau of Fire Prevention, which regulates the installation of fire safety and suppression systems in New York City. <\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">With the help of another chief, Brian Cordasco, Saccavino solicited and received $190,000 in bribe payments between 2021 and 2023, prosecutors said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">\u201cChief Saccavino led a pay-to-play bribery scheme that would offend the sensibilities of every hard-working New Yorker,\u201d Manhattan U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton said in a statement. <\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">A retired firefighter who ran an unsanctioned \u201cexpediting\u201d business acted as the intermediary for the more than 30 projects that benefited from the accelerated reviews.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Saccavino was arrested in September alongside Cordasco, who also pleaded guilty and was <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/nyc-fdny-fire-department-chief-prison-bribes-8d64e076a8a107abeb2e295c71b5cefe\">sentenced<\/a> in March to 20 months in prison. <\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Their arrests came days before the criminal indictment of Mayor Eric Adams on <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/nyc-mayor-eric-adams-indictment-fbi-5aad135d1808cb9d049fccd74604e5d4\">bribery charges<\/a> that included allegations he sped up fire safety inspections at the Turkish consulate in exchange for illegal contributions.
