{"id":9702,"date":"2025-05-23T23:52:07","date_gmt":"2025-05-23T23:52:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/firearmman.com\/?p=9702"},"modified":"2025-05-23T23:52:08","modified_gmt":"2025-05-23T23:52:08","slug":"movie-armorer-completes-prison-sentence-in-fatal-rust-set-shooting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/firearmman.com\/?p=9702","title":{"rendered":"Movie armorer completes prison sentence in fatal &#8216;Rust&#8217; set shooting"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-testid=\"prism-article-body\">\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao MvWXB TjIXL aGjvy ebVHC \"><span class=\"oyrPY qlwaB AGxeB  \">SANTA FE, N.M. &#8212; <\/span>A movie armorer convicted in the fatal shooting of a cinematographer by Alec Baldwin on the set of the Western movie \u201cRust\u201d was released from a New Mexico prison on Friday after completing an 18-month sentence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Prison records show Hannah Gutierrez-Reed signed out of the Western New Mexico Correctional Facility in Grants to return home to Bullhead City, Arizona, on parole related to her involuntary manslaughter conviction in the death of Halyna Hutchins in 2021.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Gutierrez-Reed also is being supervised under terms of probation after pleading guilty to a separate charge of unlawfully carrying a gun into a licensed liquor establishment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Baldwin, the lead actor and coproducer for \u201cRust,\u201d was <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/alec-baldwin-rust-shooting-movie-things-to-know-6c08979ccc0067660831ba66602334fd\">pointing a gun at Hutchins<\/a> during a rehearsal on a movie set outside Santa Fe when the revolver went off, killing Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">A jury convicted Gutierrez-Reed of involuntary manslaughter in March 2024. Gutierrez-Reed has an appeal of the conviction pending in a higher court. Jurors acquitted her of allegations she tampered with evidence in the \u201cRust\u201d investigation. <\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Prosecutors blamed Gutierrez-Reed for unwittingly bringing live ammunition onto the set of \u201cRust\u201d and for failing to follow basic gun safety protocols.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Gutierrez-Reed carried a gun into a downtown Santa Fe bar where firearms are prohibited weeks before \u201cRust\u201d began filming.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The terms of parole include mental health assessments and a prohibition on firearms ownership and possession.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">An involuntary manslaughter charge against Baldwin was dismissed at trial last year on allegations that police and prosecutors withheld evidence from the defense.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The filming of \u201cRust\u201d was completed in Montana.
